SIR - Maybe I am wrong, but I seem to have read somewhere that the young lady at the centre of the veil debate was a teacher of English to her pupils.
When I was taught, many years ago, one had to be able to see the mouth and lips to get the correct pronunciation, a fact that everybody seems to be forgetting. No matter what language is being advanced it is imperative that the tutor's face be visible, so really religion should not come into the equation.
Therefore, why not come to a compromise and offer her a different educational role away from the classroom?
