SIR - David Barnett left me seething with anger by comments in his I Say' column (T&A, October 31), dressing them up in his childlike sense of fun.

He says he's not sure that he cares about the Union flag one way or the other and that the main reason for him not giving two hoots if anyone burns it is that it is particularly ugly.

Why am I so angry about this? Simple, millions of British soldiers have gone into battle behind the Union Flag, many never returning. It is not important whether they were right or wrong, they did their duty.

How can David Barnett compare his miserable' loyalty to that which they gave?

Does he remember seeing British soldiers carrying a 100 lb pack on their shoulders, with the added weight of that ugly' flag as they yomped' across the Falklands doing 30 miles in one day?

Will David Barnett be at Remembrance Day Sunday, seeing that ugly' flag everywhere and spouting off there?
