SIR - If or when Leeds Bradford Airport is sold, forward-thinking Leeds Council are going to use the money to build a state-of-the-art concert hall.

That means, once more, Leeds has stolen a march on Bradford and left it floundering in its wake.

Bradford, whose council had the best opportunity, for years, of any city in Yorkshire to build a concert/exhibition hall on the Odeon site, has again been beaten to it by it's more perceptive, shrewd and realistic neighbour.

The sum total of Bradford Council's ambition for this most prestigious city centre site is a glorified entrance to the Technical College, featuring a beauty salon and a kitchen overlooking a weird puddle of water which will, inevitably, become a polluted, rubbish-infested swamp.

Not only has Bradford lost the chance of becoming a centre of excellence for performing arts in the North of England, but it has squandered a golden opportunity to become involved in the growing conference and exhibition industry.

Still, as I have said before, what can you expect from a Council and Planning Department which is responsible for two ring roads, neither of which actually goes all the way round the city.
