It has been another busy week in court, with a man jailed for trying to murder his own father, drug dealers, a 'crime tourist' who struck at locations across Bradford, and more.

Son who unleashed 'frenzied' knife attack on his own father is jailed for life
An aggrieved son who tried to murder his estranged father in a “frenzied” stabbing has been jailed for life at Bradford Crown Court.
The court heard that “obsessive” Shahzan Hussain was said to have carefully planned his pre-meditated attack by driving hundreds of miles to Bradford from his home in Wales and then lying in wait outside his father’s back door.

Masked and dressed entirely in black he emerged from the darkness at about 11pm on April 19 last year and stabbed Abdul Rouf around a dozen times with a 15cm-long hunting knife.

Drug trafficker slammed by judge as a 'scourge on the city' is jailed
A drug trafficker described as “a scourge” on the city of Bradford has been jailed for more than five years after he was caught dealing crack cocaine in an alleyway outside his own home.

Bradford Crown Court heard how undercover police officers bought crack cocaine from Hamza Ali on four occasions in September and October 2023 after making deals via his Snapchat account.
Ali, 28, had already served two lengthy jail sentences for drug dealing and was on licence at the time he was caught.

Bradford gang leader jailed for role in drugs supply worth £460k
The leader of a Bradford gang has been jailed for his role in the supply of cocaine and ketamine with an estimated street value of £460,000.
Mohammed Laher was jailed after admitting his role in a plot involving the wholesale supply of the drugs which were destined for the streets of West Yorkshire and neighbouring counties.

Laher, 32, was jailed for seven years and four months for conspiracy to supply cocaine, and five years and four months to run concurrently for conspiracy to supply ketamine, a Class B drug.

'Crime tourist' struck at well-known Bradford city centre locations including hotels
A Czech national who embarked upon a theft and burglary spree came to the UK as “a crime tourist”, a court heard.
Julian Vesely was described in Bradford Crown Court as “an accomplished professional thief” who racked up 10 offences in a matter of days – including targeting a wheelchair-bound man and stealing his wallet.
Mr Recorder Shamin Qureshi dismissed suggestions that he was a desperate man who had stolen to support himself.

The court heard that Vesely, 29, arrived in the UK from the Czech Republic on January 28.
Between February 5 and March 12 he stole mobile phones, bags, and bank cards from several people at locations such as Centenary Square and The Broadway shopping centre including from a man in a wheelchair who was left “very distressed”.

Bradford man deliberately bit part of victim's ear off in drink-fuelled attack
A judge has jailed a Queensbury man for deliberately biting off part of his victim’s left ear during a drink-fuelled street attack.
The victim, who had been on a night out in February 2022, was attacked by Travis Yates and his co-defendant Bracken Moss, 26, of Backhold Drive, Siddal, Halifax, after an altercation outside the Yates Wine Bar in Halifax town centre.

Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan told Bradford Crown Court on Friday that Yates, 31, of Lyon Street, was the main aggressor, but Moss had also joined in the early hours attack.
During the violence Yates deliberately bit off the top part of the complainant’s left ear before security staff in the area became aware of the incident and CCTV equipment was used to track the movements of the men after the attack.

CCTV caught fly-tipper as 10 bags of waste were thrown from van
A man who was prosecuted after 10 bags of waste were flung from a van had initially claimed they fell out by accident after he forgot to close the van door.
Nicky Ellis, 41 of Albert Terrace, Oakenshaw, had been tracked down after CCTV cameras recorded bags of plant waste being thrown onto the side of the road at Staithgate Lane on August 24.

On Thursday he appeared in court to plead guilty to fly-tipping, and was ordered to pay over £1,600, with prosecutors saying he showed a “blatant disregard for the law".

More than 60 arrests made in huge Bradford County Lines police operation
More than 60 arrests and 3kg of drugs have been seized in a huge County Lines police operation - and the Telegraph & Argus was there to witness some of the raids.
Over the last four weeks, 61 warrants were executed in relation to the supply of class A drugs, with 55 of those raids being carried out in Keighley and six in Skipton.

A total of 62 people were arrested on suspicion of drug supply offences - and 31 of those people have now been charged.
During the operation, police recovered more than £100,000 in cash, 3kg of cannabis, crack cocaine and heroin, and weapons including batons, knuckle dusters, two swords, a machete, and a crossbow.
