According to the Rowley Collection website this is the old Roman road at the top of Shortbank Road looking East from Moor Gate.
Doubtless readers spent many hours as youngsters playing around here and people have been revisiting the area during the past lockdown as part of their daily exercise routines.
Rankin’s Well is over the stile to the right according to a commenter on the website in 2008. They add they spent many happy summers playing around the area. She adds Rankin’s Well was a large boulder with a natural spring coming from under it. Originally there was a metal cup on a chain attached to the boulder.
