A PLANNING application for reserved matters in relation to a 40-home development at Shires Lane, Embsay, has been deferred while more information about drainage has been clarified.

The site already has outline permission and is to include eight one-bed, six two-bed, 19 three-bed and seven four+bed houses.

Members of Craven District Council’s planning committee were concerned there were unresolved flooding issues and feared there would be an overload on the village’s sewage system.

The committee was told there was to be a culvert replaced which which would direct surface water run-off.

Ward councillor Brian Shuttleworth said he was concerned about the increased load on water courses in Embsay, which could in turn impact on Bow Bridge and even further down in Eller Beck.

He was also concerned about the impact a row of terraced houses with garages underneath would have on the area.

The committee agreed to defer a decision for more drainage details.
