THE annual Tinsel Torch Run took place in Skipton, last Sunday evening when 60 hardy runners, many in fancy dress and facing sleet and snow, took to the moor in a five-mile circular route via the trig point.

The Tinsel Torch Run is a fundraising event for Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association. The event was organised by Mel Steventon of local running events company Due North and raised £335 on the night.

There was mulled wine and mince pies to welcome them back to The Royal Air Force Association club, in Moorview, at the end of the run.

Due North Events was set up by Mel in April 2017 after she attended an inspiring talk from record breaking fell runner Nicky Spinks. She organises trail races, running weekends for beginners and ladies only weekends with a view to encouraging more women to get involved with the sport.

Due North Events organises three annual trail races in the Yorkshire Dales: Burnsall Trail Half Marathon, Kettlewell Trail Half Marathon and Skipton Trail Half Marathon, as well as The Yorkshire Trod. which is a 100km fell race from Grassington.

Since joining Skipton AC in 2014, Mel has fallen in love with fell running. In June 2019 she completed the Bob Graham Round, taking on 42 of the Lake District peaks over 68 miles. This was followed by The Everest Marathon in December in aid of Community Action Nepal.
