EMERGENCY services attended a 'serious collision' in Skipton yesterday evening, between a lorry and a car.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been called to attend the crash on the A65 Skipton bypass at the junction of Harrogate Road and The Bailey at around 5.50pm.

In order to deal with the collision, the road was closed to traffic between Grassington Road roundabout and the A65/A59 roundabout.

Both police and the fire service tweeted the road would be closed 'for sometime' while work was carried out to deal with the incident.

A number of social media posts raised concerns about the junction when news of the crash was posted.

One stated: "How many more bad accidents need to happen before a decision is made to change the road layout? Very difficult driving conditions tonight but the road could be made safer."

Another said: "Bad driving conditions tonight. I can see the junction from my house. It's far away but lots of blue lights. Hope everyone is ok."

Further details of the incident and the circumstances surrounding the collision or who was involved have yet to be confirmed.

Police are asking for any witnesses to the crash to contact them on 101 and quoting reference number NYP-10122019-0359.

Police said further details surrounding the collision and those involved will be made later today.
