POLICE were called to an incident when a child was seriously injured in the town on Wednesday.

An eye witness, who does not wish to be named, said there was extensive police and ambulance activity, including the air ambulance, in the vicinity of an address in Skipton East, during the afternoon and evening of October 2.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "Emergency services responded to an incident involving a serious injury of a young child in Skipton on Wednesday, October 2.

"The incident happened at around 3.30pm.

"The child was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary and admitted into a specialist unit."

Police have not disclosed the location, but said it occurred at an address in the 'east area of Skipton'.

No further information into the nature of the incident or the condition of the child has been released by the police at this stage.
