A 33-YEAR-OLD man who was injured in a crash on the A56 at Thornton-in-Craven has died.

A silver Ford Focus, travelling towards Barnoldswick from the Skipton direction, left the road and collided with a tree, near to the junction with Brearlands at 1.15am on Saturday.

The man driving the car, from Lancashire, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, but has since died.

The road was closed in both directions for a number of hours to allow emergency services to attend the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We are continuing to investigate the collision.

"Anyone who can help officers with their enquiries is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask to speak to the Major Collision Investigation Team.
