DO you know a green hero who has done something exceptional in Craven?

Perhaps someone who has transformed or protected a local environment, or an organisation which is championing green issues?

If so, they are perfect candidates for recognition in the Community Champion Awards to be held at Coniston Hotel in February.

The Greener Craven Award is just one of many categories designed to reward those who go the extra mile for the district and aims to celebrates the achievements of a group or individual who has done something to improve the quality of our environment.

This may be anything from cleaning up a space in your town or village to inventing an app that helps people reduce their carbon footprint; from starting a veg swap scheme to organising a clothes swap; from setting up a fuel cooperative to developing an educational programme about the environment.

Last year, the Greener Craven Award was given to the Friends of Embsay with Eastby Nature Reserve. This group has transformed the nature reserve, making it more accessible while retaining an important wildlife habitat.

If you would like to nominate someone for the Greener Craven Award, the Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has: Motivated and inspired others to get involved, made a positive difference and how they have improved the environment for their community, or actively promoted environmental issues within their community

The Greener Craven Award is sponsored by Smart Solutions.

A spokesman said: “Smart Solutions is proud to sponsor the ‘Greener Craven Award’.

“At Smart Solutions one of our core values is awareness of our environmental responsibilities. We love trying to make a difference and we’re delighted to see this happening in our local community.”

Nomination forms are available at: www.cravendc.gov.uk/communitychampions or pick one up from any local participating shop or service. They must be returned by November 10.
