CLAPHAM-based Cave Rescue Organisation has launched a safety leaflet to help visitors in the Dales enjoy the experience in safety.

Using a cartoon image of Crow, the organisation's mascot, sketched by Mark Nuttall and Hunt Emerson, the leaflet gives advice to people to enable them to prepare for a walk in the Dales and to be aware of any eventualities they may come across.

The leaflet has been produced as part of Stories in Stone, a scheme of conservation and community projects concentrated on the Ingleborough area.

The scheme was developed by the Ingleborough Dales Landscape Partnership, led by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The YDMT funded 66 per cent of the cost of production.

The main safety messages are on the front of the leaflet with a colouring sheet for younger children on the reverse to colour in their own Crow.

There are also a number of leaflets which have been provided blank on the reverse so that a safety quiz, crossword, wordsearch etc may be copied there for other ages.

Details about safety can be found on the website at: www.cro.org.uk/safety/ or at www.adventuresmart.uk

In addition, Mountain Rescue England and Wales is distributing the latest edition of its safety advice leaflet for walker, climbers and cyclists -

Since the first edition in 2017, more than 50,000 of these leaflets have been handed out across England and Wales.
