DIABETES nurse Julia Bundock has retired from her specialist role which she carried out throughout the district.

Mrs Bundock, wife of retired Skipton GP Andy Bundock, worked for the NHS for 42 years.

She was the first person to be appointed to Airedale as a diabetes specialist nurse, having previously had this role at Guy’s Hospital, in London.

In the mid-1980s she moved from Airedale to begin and develop the same role in Craven GP surgeries. Over the years she has run regular diabetes clinics at Dyneley House Surgery, Fisher Medical Centre, Settle Townhead Surgery, Grassington Surgery and Cross Hills Medical Centre.

Her work has involved everything from patient education from how to try and prevent diabetes, to starting and monitoring insulin treatment for type I diabetics.

Mrs Bundock said she had seen a ‘sea of change’ in the number of diabetes cases and the work by the NHS to tackle it.
