ON one of the warmest days of the year so far, national park authority rangers shovelled and raked 100 tonnes of sandstone aggregate to repair a bridleway on Threshfield Moor.
A helicopter brought the loads today to the site from Boss Moor, two kilometres away.
The team of five are working to repair 700 metres of the bridleway using 50 large timbers, also brought in by helicopter, so that bridges which had been damaged could be replaced.
The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority’s Member Champion for Recreation Management, Nick Cotton, said: “Any work done to keep bridleways in good condition is much appreciated, as they have a wider range of users than footpaths.
“The bridleway on Threshfield Moor is popular with mountain bikers of all ages and is an important link between Mastilles Lane and Hetton Moor Lane.”
It’s nearly 20 years since work was done on this section and is part of a maintenance programme.
