A BALL held in memory of late Lawkland farmer Keith Fairhurst, has raised £18,000 for Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice.

Mr Fairhurs died a year ago at the age of 72.

The ball, which included an auction, was held at the Stirk House Hotel, in Gisburn, and had been organised by his wife, Susan.

The auction included international rugby tickets, hotel and dinner packages, and holidays and the musical entertainment was provided by Earcandy. The raffle prizes were donated by Michael and Susan Winchester.

Mrs Fairhurst said: “Keith was livestock manager at Dunbia, Sawley, and was held in high regard by the farmers and colleagues in the industry, many of whom supported the ball.

“My thanks to Dunbia who very kindly donated the beef for the event and to The Stirk House Hotel for their attention to detail on the evening.

“I would like to thank all those who donated items for the auction and raffle.”

“Mercifully Keith’s illness was short and we only ever met Sharron from Manorlands once, but we were offered reassurance and I am well aware of the incredible work the Sue Ryder registered charity does, offering care and support to patients and their families at the most difficult time of their lives. “I thank everyone who helped raise the amount we were able to donate, whilst enjoying a very special evening, remembering Keith.
