A BARNOLDSWICK dentist who is running the London Marathon in aid of Pendleside Hospice, is organising a cake sale to boost his fundraising effort.

Richard Parker, a dentist at Diamond Smiles Dental Centre, is holding a Big Bake Sale at Thornton-in-Craven Village Hall on Saturday, March 23.

"I just want to give something back to the community in which I work and live," he said.

"The hospice costs over £4 million a year to run with over £3 million coming from public donations.

"They provide wonderful support to patients and their families at the most difficult times in their lives.

"On Friday, March 22, I shall be taking a day off work to bake as many cakes and biscuits as I can to sell them the next day at the village hall.

"There will also be a fabulous prize draw which includes some great prizes donated by local businesses, a tour of Broughton Hall followed by lunch for four at Utopia, six months full membership of Jetts fitness Skipton, home tooth whitening treatment Diamond Smiles Barnoldswick and a magical owl hawk experience Coniston Hall plus many more amazing prizes.

"The admission to the bake sale/coffee morning is free.

"The London Marathon is in seven weeks, on April 28. It will be my first full marathon having completed several half marathons and 10ks.

"I would like to try and finish it in just under 4 hrs if possible but am looking forward to the great atmosphere and just want to soak it all up and enjoy the experience.

"So far I’ve managed to raise just over £3,000 with great support from my friends and patients. I really can’t thank them enough it has been so overwhelming."
