A MAN who had been sent to Skipton to try and address his drinking problem has died of alcohol poisoning.
An inquest at Skipton Magistrates’ Court heard Edward Maude, 34, came to Skipton from America last year to be under the watchful eye of his aunt and uncle.
Despite registering with a Silsden GP and appearing to be conquering his problem, Mr Maude was found dead at his flat in Otley Street, Skipton, on July 20 last year.
His aunt and uncle were alerted to check on him after his girlfriend in America had not heard from him that day.
He was found in bed fully clothed and declared dead at 7.25pm.
A post mortem examination revealed he had 482 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, more than six times the drink-drive limit and much higher than what would be expected to be found in the most dependent of alcohol abusers. He was also found to have cirrhosis of the liver.
Coroner Rob Turnbull recorded a verdict of death by ethanol toxicity.
