A FIELD of more than 200 runners took on a half marathon along the roads around Settle at the weekend.
Despite unsettled weather with Storm Freya threatening to blast in from the west, the runners made some good times.
First over the line was David Smithers, of York Kanvesmire Harries with a chip time of 1:20:25.
He was followed by Settle Harriers’ Matthew Cardus in second place on 1:21:33.
Third placed was Chorley Athletic and Tri club’s Robert Walsh on 1:21:56.
First female back was Claire Cooper of Kcac on 1:30:17.
Second female was Elizabeth Renondeu of Vale Royal AC on 1:32:09 and third was Joanne Nelson, of Blackburn Harriers and AC on 1:36:13.
The event attracted runners from clubs as far away as Manchester and Rochdale.
A contingent of Bowland Fellrunners of Peter Kirby, Ellis Bland and Will Smith, were pace for pace around the course, crossing the finishing line at 1:40:22, 1:40:22 and 1:40:24 respectively.
The half marathon is a new discipline in North Craven’s calendar and is expected to be a regular event.
The start and finish was at Settle Swimming Pool.
