SETTLE'S Victoria Hall is hosting a benefit concert through the Refugee ReSETTLEment Group which is aiming to sponsor a Syrian family and help them become self-sufficient members of the community.

The concert is being held on Saturday, March 30, with musicians Brothers Gillespie and Five in a Bar performing for free to support the project

which is part of the Community Sponsorship scheme instigated by government and supported by the United Nations.

The two main acts are The Brothers Gillespie and Five in a Bar and there will be additional surprise guests.

The Brothers Gillespie are folk musicians from Northumberland who are devoted to honouring and if possible, contributing to the long lineage and tradition of mystically minded troubadours.

“We aspire to sing in honour of the spirits, lands, cultures, tongues and silences, ways of being beyond the centres of control. There lie the outlands without and within”

After a tour of England, Wales and France in 2018, playing intimate concerts in many marvellous places, the brothers have recorded and released their second album called 'The Fell'. The album launched at The Queen's Hall in Hexham in December and they are now touring to promote it.

Five in a Bar are female a capella singers, formed in 1998, brought together by friendship and the sheer joy of singing in harmony. They have since performed across the North West of England singing their a capella arrangements of a wide variety of music - from folk and traditional to contemporary classics and blues.

The event starts at 7.30pm with doors opening at 6.45pm.

Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from the Victoria Hall box office or online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/settlevictoriahall

There will be a bar and raffle.
