A PLANNING application to add 38 static caravans, 10 camping pods and a multi use sports court area to existing units at Tarn Caravan Park, Stirton, has been refused.

The application was recommended for approval by officers, however, members of the district council's planning committee at the latest meeting deemed the proposals amounted to overdevelopment of the site and would result in a loss of amenity space.

The caravan park currently houses 260 static caravans, 12 twin units and 32 touring caravans split between two areas with open area of grassland that forms an informal recreation/amenity area.

It is this area where the proposed additional caravans were to be sited, along with a proposal to retain an area of wild meadow within the centre of the caravans and camping pods.

Committee members were told proposed illumination along the main road to the site had been omitted from the plans.

Stirton with Thorlby Parish Council objected to the plans stating the number of units proposed was equivalent to the number of houses in the hamlets of Stirton and Thorlby. They were also concerned about the increase in traffic along Whitehills Lane.
