DEMENTIA Friendly year eight and nine pupils from Upper Wharfedale School are calling on local people and businesses to support them as they learn about how the condition can affect people’s lives.
The young students have committed to becoming Dementia Friends and this week have been taking part in training and are looking at ways to help people in their local community.
“In the New Year we would like to run a community event and would welcome all local businesses to take part,” explained assistant head teacher Helen Mukherjee.
“The plans are in the very early stages but I would like to hold a Dementia Friends workshop at school one evening towards the end of January which would be open to all parents, members of the community and local businesses such as cafes, pubs, shops who could all work to become safe and secure places for a person with dementia.”
