PLANS for three non-illuminated advertising signs at the former Settle Falconry Centre, at Crow Nest Road, Austwick, have been refused because of design problems.

The site is now home to The Courtyard Dairy and Buon Vino and replacement signs displaying where they are situated had been applied for.

They would be three metres in length and one meter high in green with white lettering.

The signs for Buon Vino would be smaller and in a brown/red background colour.

Councillor Chris Harbron said the colour was too bright and did not fit in with the surroundings: “They are a little bit overpowering on the eye; okay in the metropolis. I would be in favour of some toning down in colour,” he said.

The plans were refused for their detrimental impact on the visual amenity and character of the surrounding area which was in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Members suggested amended plans be brought back to committee for further determination.
