AN AMENDED planning application for an extension to a house in Park Wood Crescent, Skipton, was narrowly voted through after planning committee members disagreed on privacy matters.

The detached bungalow was granted permission for a single story sunroom in 2016 and a revised proposal was approved in September last year.

At a meeting of Craven District Council’s planning committee on Monday, members were asked to approve further amendments comprising a reduction in the width of the fixed obscure glazed windows on the north west elevation, revised steps, balustrade and handrail with a top platform measuring 1800mm by 900mm and replacement of a double width window and glazed single door with double, glazed patio doors.

Members were shown photographs of the work which had already started.

Councillor Paul Whitaker said he was moving for refusal as the double patio doors showed a clear view of neighbouring gardens because the extension jutted out further.

“I find this very unneighbourly,” he said.

Councillor Chris Harbron said he did not like the application..

“It looks big enough to put a table and chairs on that top step,” a suggestion disputed by planning manager Neville Watson who said the landing part of the steps would be too small.

Cllr Harbron disagreed and said it was “ a bridge too far”.

A vote on refusal reached a stalemate of four members in favour of the plans and four against.

Planning committee chairman Councillor Alan Sutcliffe, used his casting vote to vote against refusal and then used his casting vote to see the plans approved.
