A SPECIAL commemoration service was held at a church in West Craven.

A Peace Service was held at All Saints Parish Church in Earby earlier this month to commemorate August 4, 1918, when King George VI dedicated the day for Prayers for Peace.

One hundred days later the First World War ended.

All Saints’ vicar, the Rev Hugh Fielden, led the service with prayers and readings from all of the other local churches in the Earby and District Churches Together group.

A total of 30 people, including member of the Barnoldswick and District branch of the Royal British Legion, attended and took refreshments together after the service.

The Local History Society loaned the church five boards with photographs, names and dates of the 167 men lost during the war, from the Earby and District area.

The badged crosses of the 1918 casualties were displayed in front of the boards, which were in the Chancel.
