SIR - Last week we received notice that our central heating boiler cover agreement would be automatically renewed at a cost of £592. Thinking this was a bit steep, we rang the company - a major gas supplier - to cancel the contract.
After some negotiation the company offered us the exact same contract and cover for £350. A massive £242 cheaper.
We still cancelled, as we found a local company who can offer the same cover for £200. Similarly, when my car renewal quote came I rang to cancel, having found a cheaper quote online.
When I rang my insurers to cancel, they immediately offered me a new quote undercutting the online quote.
Please be careful.
Don't accept automatic renewals until you've checked they are the best deal for you.
