RESIDENTS of Holme Wood came together to organise a couple of community litter picks.

The first one was organised by Barbara, of Heysham Drive. She was joined by Tong ward councillor Matt Edwards, neighbours and their children, who all spent several hours collecting bags of litter.

A similar event took place a few days later on nearby Wenborough Lane where Cllr Edwards again joined residents clearing nearly 20 bags of rubbish from the bank and surrounding area.

He said: “It was an absolute pleasure to join these two litter picks. I think it is great that residents like Barbara have stepped forward to arrange this and even better that children have been so keen to get involved.

“We are always seeing negative news stories about Holme Wood, but this just goes to show that the majority of people living on the estate just want to get on with things and keep their neighbourhood clean and tidy.

“I am really keen to organise more of these events across the ward. They really do make a difference and bring people together.”

Charity, Keep Britain Tidy has organised the Great British Spring Clean which started on May 28 and runs until June 13. This initiative is encouraging local people to come together to clear litter from streets, parks and beaches.
