GIGGLESWICK School has appointed Ilkley girl, Katie Bagshaw, as Head Girl for the academic year 2020-21, alongside Nico Overbeck as Head Boy. Both were chosen following a rigorous selection process including a letter of application and a presentation to the Headmaster.

Katie, from Langbar, joined Giggleswick in Year 8 and is looking forward to acting as a positive role model. Katie is an advocate of participation at Giggleswick, having been heavily involved in the hockey, netball and tennis teams as well as school productions and Head of Marines in the school’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF).

She said: “I applied for Head Girl because I’d like to be a positive role model for younger students. I want to encourage them to participate in as much as possible and to not be afraid to give something a go. That is what I love about Gigg – you make so many friends because you take part in so much. I already have some ideas about what I would like to bring to the role next year and I can’t wait to get started. I’d like to introduce transition days that are run by sixth formers for pupils moving up into a senior boarding house. What is great about our house system is that pupils from all year groups are friends, and I want that to remain during my time as Head Girl.”

Headmaster, Mr Mark Turnbull, said: “Both Katie and Nico embody the values of Giggleswick for the positive manner in which they embrace the opportunities to participate in the full breadth of the curriculum. They are full of ideas about taking forward new initiatives across the school and I really look forward to working with them to support the wider pupil body.”
