SCHOOL bus service changes in Otley will not lead to extra costs for students pursuing after-school activities.

Services to Prince Henry’s Grammar School are currently subsidised by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA). That will end, however, on April 20 when Connexions and Kilvington of Leeds begin operating the service on a commercial basis.

Fares will rise under the new arrangements and the school and parents have also raised concerns about the potential impact on extra-curricular activities. Councillor Barry Anderson (Con, Adel & Wharfedale) took up that issue recently on behalf of a resident.

The WYCA has now sent him a response which states that: “Connexions have agreed to provide additional journeys at no additional cost. There will therefore be no additional financial penalties for parents who want their children to take advantage of these opportunities.”
