STUDENTS and teachers at Prince Henry’s Grammar School are giving a meat-free menu a try.

The Otley school’s restaurant, Henry’s Diner, has started offering only vegetarian or vegan hot meals on Tuesdays.

The move has been made to both support healthy eating and reduce the school’s carbon footprint, since vegetarian meals usually have a lower environmental cost.

Catering Manager Andy Rice said: “Climate change and health are high on our students’ agendas and, although we always provide meat-free options on our daily menu it seemed right to trial a lunch menu which was exclusively meat-free.

“It’s been a great success so far and we will be seeking more formal feedback after half term.” The school’s student-led ‘Eco-mittee’ have also been working to reduce single use plastic and promote environmental issues and attended the recent Leeds Youth Voice Summit on Climate Change.
