AIREDALE hospital’s cancer unit has received a ‘Good Cause Award’ from Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate after a grateful patient’s partner nominated them.

John Hennighan from Ilkley works for Bettys and Taylors, and his partner Adele has recently undergone cancer treatment. He said: “Adele had two types of chemotherapy, the second round of which she received on the mobile cancer care unit – the bus that travels around to provide treatment at different locations. Being able to get her treatment in Ilkley took so much of the stress out of the situation, and was much easier than travelling to Airedale or Leeds.

“We are so grateful to the whole team who provided care on the mobile cancer unit – the chemo bus as I call it – everyone was brilliant.

“That’s why I approached my employer and suggested Airedale’s cancer unit for a Good Cause Award so that they can continue to support future patients.”

Bettys and Taylors have donated £1,000 as part of their ‘Good Cause Award’ charity scheme.

The money will help fund new reclining chairs for Airedale’s cancer unit and the mobile cancer unit.

Pat Dyminski, lead clinical nurse specialist for haematology, oncology and chemotherapy at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust said: “We’re always grateful for donations like this, and it’s really lovely it’s come from a patient who had a good experience whilst under our care.

“I’m really proud of everyone who works here and the great care we’re able to provide.

“The new reclining chairs we’re hoping to purchase soon will make a big difference to all our patients, giving them a more comfortable experience while having treatment here.”

Airedale’s cancer unit provides care for around 180 patients every week.
