IN its program of launching more accessible craft classes The Sewing Shed in Ilkley is running a new weekly Papercraft Class on a Thursday evening from January 23rd from 7pm to 9 pm.

Papercraft has seen a huge increase in followers in recent years as it is so easy to create keepsake greeting cards, personalised gifts and decorative items for the home using paper and card shaped into two or three-dimensional objects.

Leonie Pratt owner of The Sewing Shed said: “We believe that everyone has a creative side.

“Our aim is to provide all our students, from complete beginner to craft addict, with a relaxing couple of hours away from the stresses and strains of daily life, to focus on doing something fun and creative. Class size is kept small to ensure a good ratio of tutor to student and a friendly atmosphere.”

Led by local papercraft expert Kylie Henshaw the classes will welcome those who are new to papercraft and those who have been home taught but would like to know professional tips and new ideas. Kylie has been running her courses in Saltaire for a number of years but is excited to move her classes to Ilkley. Kylie said: “Students are always surprised that they always leave with something fabulous that they’ve made themselves along with the skills and inspiration to keep creating!”

The Sewing Shed which is now in its tenth year established itself as a provider of expert sewing lessons. On moving to larger premises in 2017 to The North Chapel, local award winning interior designer Sturman & Co, best known for their work at Ilkley Cinema, created a beautiful comfortable studio space in which they are able to host a number of craft classes.

Leonie added: “Starting a new hobby or attending a new class can be daunting for people so we are providing all materials in the cost of the six week course and a free goody bag for the first attendees.”
