OTLEY’S Town Mayor has visited a local group that helps people who have experienced anxiety, depression or isolation.

Councillor Peter Jackson was invited to attend the November 7 meeting of the Otley Springboard Wellbeing Community Group at Clitherow House, on Manor Square.

The voluntary organisation’s members support each other while trying out new hobbies including arts and crafts.

Cllr Jackson said: “I was delighted to attend Springboard Wellbeing and meet some lovely people. Anxiety and depression are becoming more recognised these days and the number of people suffering is increasing.

“Previously these were swept under the carpet but I am pleased there are organisations like Springboard so people don’t have to suffer in silence.

“The activities, or just having a tea or coffee with others who understand, really helps. One lady showed me how she uses art to battle her depression and has created some really magnificent paintings.

“I would encourage anyone who suffers or has suffered with anxiety or depression to visit.” The group meets weekly on Thursdays, from 1pm to 3pm, at Clitherow House. To find out more call 07961 072207 or (01943) 513491 or send an e-mail to hughes-p22@sky.com.
