STEVE Spoerry is standing as a Liberal Democrat in the forthcoming by-election in Ilkley North for Ilkley Town Council. Now a business consultant, Steve was a Chief Executive in the NHS. Steve has lived in Ilkley with his family since 2010. His children attend Ilkley Grammar School where he has been a parent governor for the last four years. Steve’s aim is to protect and enhance the environment of Ilkley North, including improvements to the Lido and the managing of the large crowds that visit the area on hot summer days. Supporting moves to gain bathing water status for the Wharfe and improvements to the Riverside toilets are part of this aim. He said: “I will be keeping a close eye on the potential housing development at Carters Lane. Although it is covered by Harrogate Council, it is Ilkley’s infrastructure that will have to cope”. If elected, Steve would bring top level public sector management experience to the Town Council that could be very valuable.
