PROTESTERS braved wet conditions to hold a Keep Space for Peace Week demonstration outside RAF Menwith Hill.

The event, part of a week of protests called for by the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, was held outside the main gate of the base on Tuesday, October 8.

A message was read from Cath Bann of Yorkshire CND while Dr Martin Schweiger of the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign told the protesters that bases like Menwith Hill contravened agreements to use space for peace. The Chair of CND and convenor of Global Network, Professor Dave Webb, also spoke about the many other Keep Space for Peace actions taking place across the world.

A minute’s silence was held for Harry Dunn, the 19 year old motorcyclist killed in a crash near RAF Croughton, in Northamptonshire, on August 27 in a case that has sparked a diplomatic row with the US.
