A GROUP which is aiming to transform the playground at Ilkley’s Riverside Park is being invited to apply for council funding.
The initiative is being led by Rachael Robinson who started the Burley-in-Wharfedale Playground Project in 2016, raising £125,000 within 12 months.
Now she is hoping to do the same for Ilkley and - together with the Friends of Ilkley Riverside Parks - has launched a campaign to raise between £150,000 and £200,000 to update the town’s tired play equipment.
The mother-of-three told a meeting of Ilkley Parish Council the playground only had two pieces of equipment which were suitable for children with special needs.
The Ilkley Playground Project is aiming to transform the site with equipment which would be inclusive. The scheme will also include adult exercise equipment.
Ilkley Mayor Cllr Mark Stidworthy invited the group to apply for a small amount of town council funding for the scheme.
