LAST Christmas a group of five friends sought to prove adventure can be attempted by anyone and that it has the power to inspire anyone.

The plan was simple, row 3,000 miles unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean as a part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge from the Canary Islands to Antigua. One of the friends who took part, Will Theakston said: “Sounds straight forward but, to put it into perspective, more people have been to space than have completed this challenge! Rowing an ocean requires rigorous mental and physical preparation not to mention grit and determination to succeed. We were not regular gym goers, we were not rowers, many wrote us off as dreamers and no-chancers; how were we to succeed against the unpredictability and humbling nature of the Atlantic Ocean?”

Will Theakston from the team Men of Oar will talk about his experience from the ocean at the Wednesday Nighters, on October 2 at 7.30pm, Bolton Abbey Village Hall.
