A CAMPAIGNER from Otley has started a petition calling on the Government to ‘follow through’ on its climate change commitments.

In June the Government set a legal target for the UK to achieve ‘net zero’ carbon emissions by 2050, following a recommendation by the Committee on Climate Change. Otley-based campaigner Alastair Watson, however, says that the Government has not been adopting the commission’s other key recommendations.

Mr Watson has started a Parliamentary petition, Implement all the Committee on Climate Change Recommendations without Delay, in a bid to change that.

It can be found at https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/268785, and states that: “Political rhetoric without effective action is unacceptable. Key recommendations in the May, 2019 Net Zero report have not been adopted - to include in the UK target other greenhouse gasses and emissions from aviation and shipping.”
