THE Manor House in Ilkley will be holding an exhibition in the upstairs gallery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of man’s first steps on the moon throughout August.

"To those of us who were there we hope we will recreate some of the excitement of that moment and for those of us for whom this is living history the exhibition will hopefully bring to life the world of the 1960s and what we have taken in to everyday life from these momentous moments," said Sarah Thomas, Chair of the Ilkley Manor House Trust.

As well as the exhibition there will be four workshops held in August for five to 12-year-olds (although older children are welcome too).

All the workshops will be drop in sessions from noon to 3pm and will be run by Helen Seymour. There will be nominal charge of £1.50 per child for materials.

Sunday, August 4: Create a collaborative felt universe which can be displayed in the exhibition.

Saturday, August 17: Make your own moon lander with parachute.

Saturday, August 24: Make a galaxy windmill

Saturday, August 31: Moon Art

"We also asked artists to respond to the moon landing and from those who submitted artists have been selected to be included as part of the exhibition. All these works will be for sale and will be an exciting addition," added Sarah Thomas.

"We hope young and old will enjoy this exhibition which will be on every weekend throughout August," said Clare Lamkin, the curator who has been working with the Manor House Trust on this project.

"It will be inspiring, nostalgic and fun – so make sure you put the dates in your diary."

Celebrating Man’s first landing on the Moon - an exhibition, workshops and art show at the Manor House, Ilkley, is open every weekend from 11am – 4pm from Saturday, August 3 until Sunday, September 1.
