YEADON will have its very own Christmas tree this winter.
MP Alex Sobel (Lab, Leeds North West) has been working with local residents since last autumn to raise the money needed for a town centre tree, lights and supporting infrastructure.
Last week the MP and Yeadon Christmas Tree Committee members met Leeds City Council officers and Yeadon Methodist Church representatives to discuss where the tree should go, and the logistics of erecting it.
The result is that the groundwork needed to put a Christmas tree with illuminations up outside the Methodist church is now due to be completed by the end of the summer.
Mr Sobel said: “I am so pleased to see all the hard work from over the past year result in a really positive result for Yeadon. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks and admiration to the local residents who have worked so hard to get this community project off the ground and seen it through to this fantastic end result - in particular to Julia Briggs, who has spearheaded the whole effort.
“Yeadon is a fantastic place with community spirit by the bucket load. If anywhere deserves a really special Christmas lights display it’s Yeadon!”
