ILKLEY’S MP John Grogan was presented with a petition about climate change signed by 500 students on Saturday from Adam Cooke, the head boy of Ilkley Grammar School.

Mr Grogan said: “The petition is a very impressive effort which shows how much Ilkley Grammar School pupils care about the future of our planet. I myself last week sponsored two motions in the House of Commons on a similar theme.”

Adam Cooke said: “We are currently working towards gaining Eco-Schools status which involves a student-led approach to reducing the environmental impact of the school. We are aiming to reduce the use of plastics around school and improving the energy efficiency of the heating and lighting systems. Also we are aiming to improve recycling across the site. I am pleased and proud to be a part of a student body who are making great strides toward positive change for the environment.
