SINGER-SONGWRITER Charlie Dore will team up with a virtuoso double bass player in Otley next month.

Best known as a respected songwriter for others, Charlie’s multi-faceted career includes acting, comedy-improvisation, writing for radio, and composing for film and TV - as well as performing live with her band.

She teamed up with double bass player Gareth Huw Davies on her latest album, the critically acclaimed Dark Matter, which the pair will play songs from when they take the stage at Otley Courthouse on Friday, January 25.

Playing an array of instruments between them, including guitars, mandolin, harmonium, ukulele, piano and autoharp, they are promising a ‘special evening of eclectic, contemporary folk’.

Charlie has made seven albums in total. She is one of only a handful of UK songwriters to have enjoyed success across diverse genres with songs covered by the likes of George Harrison, Tina Turner, Lisa Stansfied, Ricky Ross, Sheena Easton, Celine Dion, Black, UB40, Status Quo, Paul Carrack and - scoring a UK No 1 with Ain’t No Doubt - Jimmy Nail.

Five of her albums have been released since 2005 on her own label Black Ink, during a period that has seen her rediscover her voice and return to her earlier, folk-roots influences.

Vowing to keep touring ‘until she drops’, her songs have won two Ascap awards, an Ivor Novello nomination, both the Overall Grand and the Folk Prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards and, in 2012, Best Album Lyrics from the Indy Acoustic Project for her album Cheapskate Lullabyes.

Charlie Dore and Gareth Huw Davies will take the stage at the Courthouse at 8pm and tickets cost £13.

Places can be booked by visiting www.otleycourthouse.org.uk, calling (01943) 467466 or popping into the Courthouse, on Courthouse Street.
