A FUN D to pay for Yeadon’s new memorial stone is remaining open to meet future costs after an application for heritage lottery funding was turned down.
Donations already given have covered costs so far - but an application for a £5,000 grant to help with development and maintenance of the memorial has been rejected this week.
War memorial committee chairman Marjorie Emsley said the Yeadon fund would need to remain open to help pay for future costs.
The stone was put in place in front of Yeadon Methodist Church time for this year’s service of Remembrance, led by Deacon Jenny Parnell. A Welsh slate plaque bears an inscription in memory of the men and women who served in the world wars and subsequent conflicts.
Donations can be made to The Yeadon War Memorial Fund, Barclays Bank (Guiseley Branch): 45 Oxford Road, Guiseley, Leeds LS20 8AE. Sort Code: 20-76-92. Account Number: 33172937.
Last week a photograph of the Remembrance service in Guiseley was mistakenly used with the caption “Yeadon remembers its fallen”. The picture was not taken by Ian Lamond Photography but by JP Productions.
