AN OTLEY rugby club’s coaching team are in line for a national award.

Otley Otliensians enjoyed a hometown victory tour in May after winning the RFU Junior Vase at Twickenham earlier in the month.

The club has also earned promotion to Yorkshire Division Three under the leadership - in their first season in charge - of coaches Kris Stafford, Harrison Marshall and Stephen Quinn.

The trio have now been nominated, due to the victory at Twickenham, for a UK Coaching Award in the Greatest Coaching Moment of the Year category - and they are in prestigious company.

The other finalists are England football manager Gareth Southgate, for his team’s run in the 2018 World Cup, and Tracey Neville, who helped England’s netball team achieve a Gold medal in this year’s Commonwealth Games.

The awards evening will be held in London on Thursday, November 29 - and the winners will be selected by a public vote which opens on Monday, November 19.

Old Otliensians RUFC Chair Ben Featherstone said: “Everyone involved with Old Otliensians is hoping that the whole community of Otley and the wider Yorkshire region will support Kris, Harrison and Stephen by voting for them.”
