SCHOOLS across the Bradford district have been celebrating One Britain One Nation Day today, learning about the rich, diverse history of the UK.

Schools in every corner of the district have been taking part today, celebrating Britain and its history, and the wide range of cultures and communities that make up the nation.

From learning about the history of the British Isles, its people and the ways that different cultures have enriched the nation over the years, there were hundreds of smiling children's faces across the district for today's event.

Marshfields Primary in Little Horton has held a week long celebration of British values and diverse history, as well as encourgaing pupils to learn about their own heritage.

At St Winifride's Catholic Primary in Buttershaw, children learned about British values all week to deepend their understanding of the shared values of respect and democracy which underpin the nation.

 

At Clayton Village Primary, activities were going on in every classroom and there was even a special bhangra dance performance by Year 5 pupils for the rest of the school to enjoy, and also samba drummers for entertainment.

 

Children at Horton Park Primary designed thank you cards for Covid-19 pandemic heroes and drew flags to mark the day.

 

In the Year 2 class at Sandal Primary in Baildon, children learned about British-Jamaican nurse Mary Seacole who healed troops during the Crimean War and is one of the greatest Britons to have lived, asking questions to learn about her life.

 

At Lapage Primary as part of the celebrations the children had specially made packed lunches, while children at Shibden Head Primary and St John's the Evangelist also joined in with OBON Day, as did students at University Academy Keighley.

Also taking part were St Matthew's CE Primary, who welcomed in Armed Forces personnel to celebrate the day, Shirley Manor Primary in Wyke, Whetley Academy in Manningham, and many more around Bradford and further afield.
