MORE than a third of 25 to 29 year olds in the Bradford district got their first Covid-19 vaccine in the first five days they were eligible for the jab.

Vaccination for the over 25s opened up on Tuesday, June 8, and by Sunday, June 13, 35.3 per cent had already had their first jab of the vaccine.

The take-up of the vaccine in the district has been accelerated by the opening of eligibility for younger people, with 63.9 per cent of the district’s total population now having had their first jab.

The rollout of the second vaccine is also picking up in Bradford, with 45.4 per cent of the district fully vaccinated.

In the over 50s, the age groups most vulnerable to death or serious illness from Covid-19, 88.6 per cent have had at least one jab so far, with 81.5 per cent fully vaccinated.

While the numbers in this age group are positive, Bradford still trails the rest of West Yorkshire in vaccine uptake – every other area of West Yorkshire has over 90 per cent of its over 50s vaccinated.

In Bradford, 91.4 per cent of over 80s are fully vaccinated, for 75-79 year olds the figure is 92.5 per cent, in those aged 70-74 the rate is 90.8 per cent, for those aged 65-69 it is 86.1 per cent, and for 60-64 year olds the figure is 82.1 per cent.

More than 70 per cent of people in their 40s have had their first jab so far, while for people in their 30s the figure is 53.22 per cent, with that figure rising every day.

While Bradford is making good progress on the vaccine, it still trails behind the rest of West Yorkshire and also the national average, which sits at 80 per cent of people having had their first dose and 58 per cent fully vaccinated.

It’s now a race against time to vaccinate as many people in the district as possible to give residents maximum protection from Covid-19 and to stop further spreading of the virus.

All adults are urged to come forward and get their vaccine as soon as possible by visiting the NHS Covid-19 website.
