TRIBUTE has been paid to volunteers across the district.

And those who do give-up their time for others are being encouraged to register for a rewards scheme.

Under the Citizen Coin initiative, backed by Bradford Council’s Bradford for Everyone project, people can earn ‘digital coins’ for completing various activities.

The coins may then be exchanged for discounts on goods or services at selected stores, or gifted to individuals or organisations.

People can take part by downloading a free app.

They then browse the activities on offer from partner organisations and choose one that suits.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for neighbourhoods and community safety, praises the efforts of volunteers district-wide.

He said: “Our city, local communities and individuals’ daily lives are enriched by the support, help and guidance provided by a large number of willing volunteers – not just during this pandemic, but in normal times too.

“I constantly hear stories about volunteers who have gone way above and beyond to try to help someone who may be vulnerable, provide food to somebody in need, arrange litter picks, hold get-togethers for our elderly and so many other examples.

“Their energy and enthusiasm is truly amazing.

“Bradford district is a much better place to live, work and play due to our volunteers and I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to each and every one.”

Dr Soo Nevison, chief executive officer of Community Action Bradford and District, also pays tribute.

She said: “On behalf of all the voluntary and community-sector organisations across Bradford and district, we would like to thank each and every volunteer – new or old – for all their support during the past year.

“During an exceptionally difficult year, people from all walks of life around the district have taken the time to volunteer and make a huge difference to their communities – just as they do every year.

“Without you we simply wouldn’t exist and our communities would be much poorer places as a result.”
