HOUSEHOLDERS are being urged to take precautions when burning rubbish in their gardens.

It follows an incident in Keighley last night, when a fire in the garden of a house at Sladen Street spread to fencing and the back door of the terrace property.

One crew from Keighley fire station was called out to deal with the incident, at 7.40pm. A hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames.

Watch commander Ahsan Ali said: "If you are burning rubbish in your garden, ensure the fire is not close to fencing or the house and keep water – such as a hose or a bucket – close by just in case.

"People also need to be aware that there are legal restrictions on what you can burn in your garden."
