SERVICES across Keighley will begin to reopen from Monday (April 12) as the latest Government lockdown restrictions are eased.

Non-essential retailers, personal care premises such as hair salons and some public buildings will open their doors once again.

And pubs and restaurants can start serving customers outdoors.

Bradford Council facilities reopening on Monday include Keighley Leisure Centre, plus the Marley Activities and Coaching Centre.

Keighley Library will also open its doors for self-service browsing and managed use of public computers and study areas.

Jason Longhurst, the council’s interim strategic director for place, said: “We’re very pleased that we are able to open some of our facilities to the public once again in line with the Government’s roadmap.

“We have been working to make sure that we are taking all the right steps, including social distancing, the wearing of masks and other safeguards, so that the facilities are Covid-secure.

“We ask that people who plan to use one of the facilities check the details on our website – bradford.gov.uk – of the steps they need to take before they visit.”

The easing of restrictions is also heralding the reopening on Monday of the Dementia Friendly Keighley Information & Support Centre.

The charity says measures have been put in place to ensure in-person services are reintroduced as safely as possible – including social distancing, the wearing of face coverings, use of hand sanitiser, regular centre cleaning and minimal staff.

The centre will be open weekdays, 10.30am to 1.30pm.

A helpline remains available seven days a week, between 10am and 2pm. It can be contacted on 01535 602529. Alternatively, text or WhatsApp DFK on 07452 773788.

Dementia Friendly Keighley manager Julie Lintern said: “We are delighted to be reopening the information centre, as well as starting a phased return to reintroducing all our services and activities in line with the easing of restrictions nationally.

“As the vaccination rollout has been so successful, we feel far more confident that we can manage the risk to our clients through a number of infection control measures.

“We would like to thank everyone for their patience during these trying times.”

The Exchange Music Venue and Arts Centre, in Russell Street, Keighley, has announced it is opening a beer yard from next Thursday (April 15).

The yard – which is canopied and heated – will be open to all, with no booking required.

There will be Covid protocols such as check-ins, socially-distanced seating and hand sanitiser.

Michael Watmough, from The Exchange, said: “We were used to hosting local and international musical artists and saw that there was going to be a long pause for this when the first lockdown hit.

“Determined to survive, we opened a craft beer off-licence under the moniker Craft Beer Exchange. Sourcing the best beer we could both locally and from across Europe, we have grown this side of our business hugely in the past six months.”
