A COUNCILLOR said "it's a scary time" after police launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in his 40s.

But Councillor Julie Intern (Lab, Keighley West) outlined that a police inspector had assured her this was an isolated incident.

West Yorkshire Police was called to reports of a man who was injured at 3.56am in Keighley, yesterday morning.

Emergency services rushed to a property on Fell Lane, Exley Head and found a man in his 40s with a serious injury.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Police arrested two men and one woman on suspicion of murder yesterday, in connection with the death.

A nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, said she heard some sort of commotion in the early hours, but went back to bed.

She added: "I thought I heard banging, at 4am, half four, noises, but I didn't think anything of it."

Another homeowner in the area - who wished to remain anonymous - admitted the situation was "frightening", but knew nothing about what had gone on.

She said she opened her curtains in the morning to see lots of police - and initially thought Fred's One Stop convenience store had been burgled.

The resident then rang her daughter to let her know she was okay.

Cllr Lintern (Lab, Keighley West) spoke to a police inspector, who only gave the details the public already knew about.

They did reassure her that the wider public should not be concerned for their welfare though.

She said: "It's a scary time at the moment, but I have been assured that it was an isolated incident, it seems to be.

"It's not something that should concern residents as a whole.

"Obviously my condolences go out to the gentleman who was killed."

A large police cordon was initially erected between the road's junction with Nile Street, near Fred's, and Westburn Avenue, while police conducted their investigation.

Later in the day this was pushed back from Nile Street to Thorncliffe Road.

There were a number of police officers guarding the scene, with four police cars and two forensic vans.

At one point, an ambulance also arrived at the scene but then left straight away.

A forensic tent was set-up in the middle of the road, but was moved to the side of a property, just a few doors up from Fred's.

The tent was eventually removed entirely due to the wind strength and two forensic officers continued their work without it.

One of the officers could be seen taking a photo of the property's door.

Two evidence markers were placed just outside on the footpath - about a metre apart.

Police officers were also spotted using a contraption to clear and search for items in some of the drains in the area, later in the day.

Four detectives arrived at the scene in the early afternoon and held a lengthy conversation with one of the forensic officers.

Many people posted on social media to express their shock and to send their condolences to the man's family.

A resident living nearby, who did not wish to be named, said: "I hope it's not unprovoked, it's something he's got himself into.

"It's not a bad area, but it's shocking.

"There's always stuff going on somewhere, you know of people, this that and the other, but it's not a bad area.

"You hear about it and think, could it be them?"

Several residents mentioned that the area is usually quiet and that the news was a total shock.

But other people commented on social media to counteract that viewpoint.

Another resident explained that the property being searched by forensic officers was nearly set on fire last year, with smoke billowing out of the chimney.

Cllr Lintern said: "It's an absolute shock when anything like this happens anywhere, but it was totally unexpected.

"It's worrying, but seemingly it's not something that we need to worry about more widely."

Police have issued an appeal to the public, as part of their investigation into the death.
