LAST autumn the Friends of Keighley's Carnegie Library began collecting signatures for a petition asking the council to preserve our library in its present format and I shall finally be presenting it at an online full council meeting on Tuesday, sometime between 4pm and 5pm.
Anyone wishing to 'attend' the meeting should go to the council's website and follow the links.
This presentation should have gone ahead in March but Bradford Council had to cancel all meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Clearly a lot has happened since March but some things will never change – the pride Keighley people have in being the custodians of the first Carnegie library in England and the central place our library holds, not only in our hearts, but in the warp and weft of the intellectual, cultural and social life of Keighley.
Over 1,800 people signed the petition and at last their voices will be heard.
JANE LEE
Chairperson, Friends of Keighley's Carnegie Library
